Mechanical Product / Design / Manufacturing Engineer

WISER Systems is seeking a talented and highly motivated Mechanical Product / Design / Manufacturing Engineer to be part of our accomplished engineering team.  The candidate will take on the dual role of designing the mechanical aspects of our new products in addition to being the lead in manufacturing and maintaining our products during their lifetime.

 The candidate will be the key mechanical engineer in designing enclosures for new product development in the field of real-time location systems. Duties include product conceptualization and the ability to sketch out new products designs, working through the development of designs within CAD, prototyping and refining designs, and ultimately working with high volume contract manufacturers to create molds and manufacture parts. With a focus on customer driven development, individual will seek out feedback from a variety of stakeholders to direct the design. As part of a small, dynamic engineering team, the individual will be a key contributor to new products assisting in the design and development of WISER products with a focus on manufacturability.

As lead mechanical design and manufacturing engineer, the candidate will  lead the effort to bring newly manufactured products into the marketplace and to maintain them through their life cycle. The manufacturing lead would be charged with managing the manufacturing and assembly of products, hitting delivery schedules, troubleshooting issues in the supply chain. He/she would ensure timely delivery of product and set up processes to ensure quality and reliability of the product, and would be the primary interface to contract manufacturers, negotiating price and timelines. Manufacturing improvements, upgrades, and process adjustments would be among the responsibilities in bringing up a new product as well as production maintenance.

Required Skills:

  • Experience working with contract manufactures (5+ years)

  • Experience taking product from design to manufacturing and final production and maintenance

  • Maintain a portfolio of designs that can be showcased during interview

  • Ability to sketch out design concepts to efficiently iterate through design architectures and comfort working through customer design reviews

  • Design and develop prototypes with scopes ranging from specific concepts to comprehensive, functional products.

  • Exercise due diligence in exploring the design including 3D modeling, Finite Element Analysis, and CFD

  • Perform critical testing & analysis directly related to stress, flow, fatigue, tolerance, and reliability.

  • Execute design validation process through prototyping, field & lab testing, fixture design and design-of-experiments.

  • Oversee pilot builds and initial production runs for mass manufacture

  • Create associated assembly drawings and manufacturing documents

  • Experience working with injection mold contract manufacturers to qualify and modify molds for mass manufacture

  • Experience designing with sheet metal components and understanding the tolerances for small sheet metal components that might be used in the electrical designs

  • ideal candidate has experience designing products that pass various certifications including ingress protection IP42 through IP67 classifications

  • Experience working with 3D printers to help expedite design development process

Experience:

  • B.S. / M.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. Product Development / Design Degree a plus.

  • 5 or more years of mechanical design experience in a high-volume production, product development environment

  • Experience with plastic materials and plastic part design.

  • Demonstrated ability to move design changes from concept to shop floor.

  • Working knowledge of CAD design and simulation tools (SolidWorks preferred).

  • Working knowledge of machining, tolerances, fits & finishes, and GD&T.

  • Familiar with PPAP’s, DVP&R’s, DFMEA’s and PFMEA’s.

  • Hands-on prototyping and testing abilities, including product testing against industry standards.

  • Regulatory agency experience (UL, CE, NSF) preferred

  • Maintaining documentation for manufacturing including mechanical drawings, BOMs, process instructions, Gerbers, certifications

  • Coordinating component delivery timelines to optimize delivery of product

  • Ensuring proper certifications including CE, FCC, UL

  • Quality assurance and certification compliance

  • Coordinating with engineering team to achieve manufacturing goals

  • Organized spreadsheet driven timeline development experience
