Hardware Design Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer

WISER Systems is seeking a talented and highly motivated Hardware Design / Manufacturing Engineer to be part of our accomplished engineering team.  The candidate will take on a dual role, first being responsible for designing PCBAs for our real-time location system products; and second, serving as manufacturing lead for the WISER product line. The candidate will need to understand interfacing to microcontrollers and other digital and analog sensor devices. Experience in discrete RF component design is preferred. As part of a small, dynamic engineering team, the individual will be a key contributor assisting in the design and development of new products with a focus on manufacturability.

As lead manufacturing engineer, the candidate will lead the  introduction of new  products into the marketplace and maintaining them through their life cycle. The manufacturing lead would be charged with managing the manufacturing and assembly of products, hitting delivery schedules, and troubleshooting issues in the supply chain. He/she would ensure timely delivery of product and set up processes to ensure quality and reliability of the product, and would be the primary interface to contract manufacturers, negotiating price and timelines, and putting together and maintaining design and manufacturing documents for manufacturing. Manufacturing improvements, upgrades, and process adjustments would be among the responsibilities in bringing up a new product and production maintenance.

Knowledge of PCB EDA’s is required. BOM maintenance and ability to find alternative parts is expected. Experience directing/managing product qualifications, certifications, and testing needs.  Experience and familiarity with the certifications process for CE, IP, UL, safety, and FCC is a plus.

 Design / Manufacturing Engineer Required Skills include:

  • Design and development of low power handheld RF devices

  • Expert fluency in C is necessary

  • Utilizing schematic capture tools and guide PCB layout (5+ years)

·       Experience working with contract manufactures (5+ years)

·       Coordinating component delivery timelines to optimize delivery of product

·       Maintaining documentation for manufacturing including mechanical drawings, BOMs,
process instructions, Gerbers, certifications

·       Quality assurance and certification compliance

·       Coordinating with engineering team to achieve manufacturing goals

·       Organized spreadsheet driven timeline development experience

  • Ensuring quality design outputs and regulatory adherence through documented requirements, verification processes, and detailed design descriptions

  • Performing hands-on, in-the-lab, troubleshooting and bring up of prototype hardware

  • Taking detailed measurements of analog hardware using standard electrical measurement tools including oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers to assess circuit performance, investigate anomalies, and inform design improvements

  • Working as a team with other analog, digital, software, and mechanical engineers to review and improve hardware designs

  • Working directly with our customers to understand their needs, their product and design requirements, and their priorities

  • Experience with microcontroller layout and interfaces

  • Experience with digital and analog sensor interfaces

  • Experience with power savings to reduce power consumption

  • Experience with USB/Ethernet interfaces

  • Familiarity with discrete RF designs

  • Interface with contract manufacturers

  • BOM management

  • Design for manufacturing

  • Filing for FCC/CE certifications

  • RF design experience

  • Verification and testing of designs

  • Create and manage product documentation

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Master’s Degree preferred

  • Electrical Engineering (5+ years)

  • PCB Layout (5+ years)

 Preferred skills:

  • Kicad EDA familiarity

  • Experience working with mechanical engineers

  • Experience interfacing with contract manufacturers
