THE PROBLEM: LOOK ALIKE ASSETS

Complex manufacturing processes that rely on multiple barcode and/or RFID scans at entry, exit and each step in-between, only increase the likelihood of error and loss. This is a time-consuming process especially in operations with valuable, look alike production parts and products.

Tracking moving parts presents challenges for manufacturers, especially in industries where raw materials are used in production, such as sheet metal, architectural glass, rolls of copper, woven goods or polymers, where distinguishing between identical pieces can be arduous. Barcoding systems are commonly used to uniquely identify each component, eliminating the need for individual measurements during movement or shipping. However, manual scanning of barcodes becomes cumbersome when workers must sift through numerous look alike pieces to locate specific ones.

Additionally, in the case of architectural glass production and finishing, assigning specific panes to customized frames and work orders further complicates the process, leading to delays and increased capital costs when pieces cannot be found promptly. The WISER system addressed a costly issue: if the glass was misplaced and not matched with the related work order, it would need to be remanufactured. This process would waste raw materials and time, negatively impacting the bottom line.

THE SOLUTION: WISER’S ASSET TRACKING SYSTEM

WISER’s solution, renowned for its ability to locate tagged items within inches even in challenging reflective manufacturing environments, offers an effective solution. In each of these examples, manufacturers continue to use their label of choice (barcodes, RFID, etc). After a single scan, these assets are autonomously paired with a WISER Tracker Tag, either at the item, or cart/buggy/tote/pallet-level and are located and tracked throughout the entire manufacturing process. The architectural glass manufacturer mentioned above uses the WISER Locator to integrate with barcodes, affixing inexpensive barcodes to individual sheets of glass. The WISER systems addressed a costly issue: if the glass was misplaced and not matched with the related work order, it would need to be remanufactured. This process would waste raw materials and time, negatively impacting the bottom line.

As sheets of glass are cut, workers barcode them, as they pass over stationary barcode scanners before being placed into WISER-tagged carts. WISER’s Tag and Track software seamlessly pairs each barcode with the corresponding tag on the cart, providing real-time visibility of both the glass’s location and the cart's coordinates. This information is displayed on facility maps or floor plans, facilitating efficient tracking without interfering with other wireless devices in the factory.

Additionally, the WISER system seamlessly integrates into any inventory management system, such as MMS, MES, or ERP for a comprehensive tracking solution.

THE RESULTS: REDUCED MANUAL SCANNING AND ASSET LOSS

WISER’s real-time location system (RTLS) revolutionizes asset tracking, enabling manufacturers to locate everything from spools of goods to sheet metal to panes of glass instantaneously and significantly reducing search times.

WISER’s asset tracking system offers a comprehensive solution to reduce workloads, prevent loss, and simplify asset management. By delivering granular location histories and real-time alerts, WISER’s system enhances operational efficiency, allowing for more completed shipments and providing valuable insights for process improvement. With the WISER system, manufacturers can ensure projects progress smoothly without the need for rushed or duplicated efforts or costly remanufacturing products.
